To understand the depth of commitment that NCA&T has for science, technology, engineering, & math, you have to go back more than 150-years to when President Lincoln created land grant universities throughout the union. NCA&T is part of that legacy. Founded in 1890, A&T emphasized agriculture & mechanical arts. Today, they call it STEM, & its presence is apparent in every corner of the campus.

During the Greensboro sit-ins, Gilbert Burnett was interning in the 5th Judicial District where similar protests occurred. He saw that judges in the south were overreacting and throwing kids in jail. He decided there needed to be an alternative to fines or jail time in the court system. Just started making bowls myself, although it’s rare for me to get lumps of wood that big, although I’ve got a mate who lives out in the sticks (‘scuse the pun), and gets wood from a tree surgeon now, and I get to pick through them. It’s a wonderful hobby which I started by just whittling and then spoon carving. I would like to ease off from my gardening job and do carving full time but my customers would be devastated!
wow sounds like a beautiful place so nice how you educate people skills to live outdoors It would be fun to cook for the vistors learn more about plants and gardening I am a big fan of what you do and your show I think I have watched every show now I am on the second time around keep up your great work You are a true inspiration

The Banjo is truly an international multi-cultural instrument. The banjo dates back 5000 years to the Chinese instrument the Qinqin. It would have made its way to India and North Africa via trade routes and then to America. Modern Qinqin even look like modern resonator American banjos. Europeans were first introduced to the banjo when they were captured by Barbary pirates and sold into slavery in North Africa. If they survived the castration procedure they would surely have encountered similar instruments in the slave camps where they toiled. Yes, the Banjo is an International Instrument and unites many cultures.
I always pass this place and I can’t help but cringe. I hope this place closes down it’s so racist. Don’t belive me? Try to find a single black or Hispanic person here
blacks and hispanics are racist against honkey hamburger joints....
I've grown up in Newton grove a small town about 25 to 30 minutes outside of Smithfield and I always hated bright leaf vs brown hotdogs but eventually i grew up and realized how much better they are, coukd sit and eat 6 in one sitting if I wanted to they are delicious

I did 12 plays at the Kirby when I was a kid in the late 70s and early 80s. Children's Theatre, Roxboro Little Theatre and Person Players productions. The Kirby is my favorite place in Roxboro. I have carried the lessons that I learned at the Kirby with me throughout my life. I am so glad that the Kirby still exists and hopefully it can continue to contribute to the lives of the kids and the community of Roxboro for many generations to come.
Ain't the place haunted
Sir, hiw can one purchase one of your dough bowls please?
I've been coming to Calabash and eating at Beck's since I was a child with my grandparents and parents. My dads side of the family are all from around Columbia SC and they found this gem many years ago. We have lived in Kentucky since 1974 but always vacationed somewhere up and down the coast around Myrtle Beach. If we stayed a week, we drove north across the state line to Calabash at least twice to eat! I've tried to explain to people that "Calabash Style" isn't the real deal and they MUST go there and experience it! Amazing
Dang, that’s :isane: man

Mr. Madren, what is the best wood to make a dough bowl from. My step son has an old bowl that is a family heirloom. I believe it is made from American Chestnut wood. The wood is very rare theses days. Have you ever seen a dough bowl made from American Chestnut?
So talented! Do you sell or make things if I ordered? Looking for a round dough bowl but would have to send picture.😊
Beautiful work, you know, 'you can't trust a man that doesn't work with his hands", what a great pleasure to see and listen to you work. Julio
